Anti-Slavery Week, October 13th – 19th, 2025, is an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about modern slavery, human trafficking, and labour exploitation. The week culminates with Anti-Slavery Day, 18th October and serves as a crucial reminder that slavery is a present-day reality affecting millions worldwide.

The purpose of Anti-Slavery Week is to highlight the ongoing problem of modern slavery and drive collective action towards its eradication. It’s a time for governments, businesses, communities, and individuals to reflect, learn, and commit to change.

  • Globally, an estimated 50 million people are living in modern slavery.
  • In the UK alone, that number is estimated at 122,000, although this continues to evolve.

Modern slavery can take many forms – forced labour, domestic servitude, sexual exploitation, and more. Vulnerabilities are often exacerbated by conflict, poverty, migration, and climate change, making people more susceptible to coercion and abuse.

Activities and Campaigns

Throughout the week, organisations and individuals participate in:

  • Educational events and awareness campaigns
  • Social media advocacy
  • Community workshops
  • Fundraising initiatives, such as #StandForFreedom
  • Promoting ethical supply chains and consumer awareness

(Workers’ rights course at FCFTA Leicester – September 2025)

Thanks to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), FTA Leicester has, once again, been funded to deliver employability and workers’ rights training to 45 individuals by March 2026. We’re proud to report strong progress: Last month, 15 learners successfully completed our first Level 1 course on Workers’ Rights and Labour Exploitation. This timely milestone aligns perfectly with Anti-Slavery Week, reinforcing the message that awareness and education are essential tools in fighting exploitation.
