‘Leicester Made’ is an online directory of local textile and apparel manufacturers, aiming to promote local manufacturing capability and skills.
This initiative is part of the ‘Leicester Textiles Renewal’ project, the project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund for 2021/22.
The fund aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot programmes and new approaches to prepare for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It invests in skills, community and place, local business and supporting people into employment. The Leicester Textiles Renewal project is being managed by Leicester City Council, delivered in partnership with De Montfort University and Fashion-Enter Ltd. The pilot project has been running since 08 November 2021 and will end on 31 August 2022.
The Leicester Made website has been developed and will be managed by Fashion-Enter Ltd, aiming to showcase an initial cohort of 21 manufacturers, providing easy to read and current data on company registration, compliance standards, specialism, capability such as type of machinery used, the skills level, type of clients, fabrication and average weekly capacity runs with minimum runs highlighted.
Although FEL has taken some steps to ensure the listed businesses meet the required ethical and social compliance standards this can not be guaranteed. FEL strongly suggests that any prospective client to the factories undertakes their own due diligence.
