On Thursday 19th December Leicester’s Fashion Hub welcomed Simon Platts, Director of Recomme, a forward-thinking company that offers recovery, recycling, refurbishment and reuse solutions for apparel and footwear in the UK. Simon came to interview eight participants currently on the Skills Bootcamp program. Skills Bootcamp is a 72-hour course supported by Leicester City Council, that teaches participants fashion and textile production skills required by industry employers today, for Recomme this includes repairs and repurposing of existing textile items.

The session began with an overview from Simon explaining how Recomme is creating opportunities in the world of re-commercialisation and repairs. Simon also explained due to the economic climate that job opportunities had been delayed into the second quarter of 2025. This is in line with several other businesses that Fashion-Enter Ltd has been working with. Simon requires a pool of talent to be available and ready for the first contracts and each participant on the program had an individual interview that lasted approximately 20 minutes. A set number of questions were asked and all feedback noted.

Generally, all the interviewees over-performed to the brief, they were confident and ready in their delivery. Thanks to Jo Bean (tutor at the Fashion Hub) for preparing the participants so well and also undertaking mock interviews and supporting on presentation skills.

The Skills Bootcamp program is excellent because it provides individuals with the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer. The Fashion Hub team are confident, going forward, that all interviewees on the 19th will be successful with their job applications.

The second round of interviews will take place in January with Recomme and we are very much looking forward to an exciting 2025.
