Upcycle With the FTA at Leicester’s Riverside Festival This Weekend
The FTA Fashion Hub excited to be taking part in the Riverside Festival, Leicester’s largest free arts festival, at the Upcycling Station on Saturday 6th June.
Taking place across Bede Park, the River Soar, Castle Gardens and De Montfort University, the Riverside Festival attracts more than 60,000 visitors each year and offers a packed programme of live music, arts, family activities, workshops, food, waterside experiences and creative events for all ages. This year’s festival includes hands-on activities designed to encourage creativity, sustainability and community participation.

As part of the festival’s expanded creative programme, the FTA be hosting a series of free upcycling activities using recycled fabrics, giving visitors the opportunity to transform unwanted textiles into something unique and useful.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or already enjoy crafting, our team will guide you through a range of simple and creative makes, including:
- A stylish slouchy bag created from reclaimed fabric
- A decorative fabric flower or rosette
- A practical macramé bottle holder made using recycled textile materials

Upcycling workshops celebrates the power of reuse by showing how discarded fabrics can be given a second life through creativity and craftsmanship. It’s a fun, accessible way to learn new skills while helping to reduce textile waste.
The Riverside Festival is the perfect setting to explore sustainable fashion and creative repurposing. Alongside our Upcycling Station, visitors can enjoy live music performances, arts and crafts, street entertainment, food stalls, waterside activities, outdoor performances and family-friendly workshops throughout the weekend.
