Established in 2006, Papillon Bleu is at the forefront of revolutionising textiles with regenerative agriculture, crafting climate-positive fabrics and low-impact clothing that make a real difference.
Igniting a hemp renaissance in the UK Papillon Bleu introduce Morpho, an innovative new textile made from hemp grown and processed in Leicestershire, blended with recycled post-consumer cashmere and NZ wool.
At the forefront of regenerative agriculture in textiles Papillon Bleu is on a mission to re-establish a localised hemp textile value chain in England and beyond. Developed with the recycling skills of iinouiio, spinning and weaving is vertical with Camira. Making worth of textile waste through recycled blends, each new design is handwoven in collaboration with Alice Timmis at her studio in East London before bulk production.
Why grow hemp? Hemp cultivation regenerates soil, improving the yield of other crops while offering farmers a high-value crop alternative. To help achieve “Net Zero” targets one hectare of industrial hemp absorbs 8 – 15 tons of CO2, while forests typically absorb only 2 – 6 tons. Morpho offers a natural fire-retardant fabric that is soft to touch and has durable tensile strength making it an ideal fabric for upholstery and outerwear. No dyes are used in the making process of this unique fabric, instead, Morpho yarn takes the colour of the waste feed which lends the final fabric a distinct recognisable character.
Bespoke developments are available for brands seeking to create their own designs using Morpho yarns. Yarns are available in single-ply or 2-5NM Yarn.
