Fashion Hub’s Technical Manager, Jo Bean and Assistant Manager, Divya Kamath, visited Basic Premier factory, Leicester, and were blown away by their innovation and company ethos.
CEO Mick Cheema, and son Anvir (pictured), are positive driving force within manufacturing in Leicester at the moment. Founded in 2012, their impressive factory has seen vast improvements in recent years, including; doubling up the factory floor space with new industrial machines and extra packing tables, alongside a new design room with a visible critical path that was organised to perfection.
Basic Premier’s business model works by allowing their customers to test a product with low MOQ of 100 pieces, then react with a super quick turnaround with a winning line.
Also, within the company’s renovation is the development of a photo studio being built to house space for De Montfort University students to learn how to build their own brand, learning directly from staff with an abundance of manufacturing knowledge.
During the visit Jo and Divya met several suppliers of trims and fabrics that all said the same thing – Basic Premier are leading with innovation in Leicester and have an incredibly strong presence with keeping Leicester supplier’s busy during these difficult times, demonstrating how great Leicester manufacturers and suppliers can work together.
Mick and Anvir are incredibly proud of their multi-faceted factory, and they welcome the big retailers that left the city that are looking to re-shore to visit their factory and take a look!
Mick states on the Basic Premier website: “We want to show that British Manufacturers have the stamina to compete with the overseas suppliers and thus limit the impact of the systemic pattern of outsourcing.”
