It was fantastic to attend the launch event of ‘Know Your Rights at Work’ multilingual booklet which was organised by Labour Behind the Label on 10th October at Wesley Hall, Leicester.

At FEL’s Fashion Hub in Leicester we deliver the Level 1 Workers’ Rights and Labour Exploitation course onsite and also in few garment factories. Since 2022 we have delivered around 190 qualifications to individuals from a diverse cultures and backgrounds. Up to 60% had limited English language skills and English wasn’t their first language.

The ‘Know Your Rights at Work’ multilingual booklet provides clear references and handy links to support learners and workers. It provides a much-needed resource for individuals, community organisers and support organisations. The Fashion Hub team were very pleased to attend and support Kaenat Issufo from Labour Behind the Label (Divya and Kaenat pictured right) on this good work.

During the event Divya from the Fashion Hub networked with different workers, community leaders, employers, unions, and organisations dealing with raising awareness. It was informative and helpful to know what others are doing to create awareness and about the support on offer. Divya was able to take few copies of booklet, and took part in the discussion on the importance of empowering workers.

Divya said: “When I was new to this country, I was not aware of my rights, work benefits, exploitation, or of the organisations that supports those that are being exploited. Though I had technical skills, I wasn’t aware that anything like this existed. After joining Fashion-Enter Limited, I was made aware, and I would suggest that the short Workers’ Rights course should be mandatory for those new to the UK joining any organisation.

“We are very grateful to Leicester City Council, who funded us through UKSPF project to deliver this employability course and create awareness among the learners on how to find job, what are the types of contract, what are the benefits they are entitled to, how can they get exploited, the different types of exploitation, and whom to report – along with the organisations that support those being exploited.

“We are always here to support the community and happy get involved with them on the good work they do!”
