Job Summary:
As a Garment Sample Room Machinist, you will be responsible for constructing, altering, and finishing sample garments based on design specifications. This includes both woven and jersey materials. You will work closely with our design and production teams to ensure that garments are produced according to the highest standards and meet the desired fit, style, and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct and sew garment samples from both woven and jersey fabrics, following design sketches, patterns, and specifications.
- Perform various sewing techniques such as stitching, hemming, overlocking, and finishing to ensure high-quality garment construction.
- Alter and modify sample garments as needed, making adjustments to fit, styling, and functionality.
- Collaborate with the design and technical teams to ensure accurate execution of designs and adherence to brand standards.
- Assist in the development of prototypes and test garments, making recommendations for improvements as necessary.
- Maintain an organized, efficient, and safe workspace in the sample room.
- Ensure all sample garments are completed on time and within the specified deadlines.
- Provide feedback on fabric behavior, pattern modifications, and garment construction challenges.
- Troubleshoot any issues during the sewing process and suggest solutions to improve production techniques.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest garment construction techniques and trends in both woven and jersey fabric garments.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a garment machinist, ideally in a sample room environment.
- Proficiency in sewing both woven and jersey fabrics, with experience in handling various types of materials.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, and fitting processes.
- Experience with different types of industrial sewing machines (e.g., single-needle, overlock, coverstitch, etc).
- Ability to interpret technical sketches, patterns, and design details.
- Attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with designers and production teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks within set deadlines.
- A passion for fashion, garment construction, and quality craftsmanship.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with both men’s and women’s fashion.
- Knowledge of different fabric types and their properties.
- Familiarity with the latest fashion trends and industry standards.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback on design and garment fitting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and sew for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle small pieces of fabric and sewing tools.
