FTA Tutors in Leicester and Haringey Complete Mental Health First Aider Course
Supporting mental health and well-being continues to be a priority across the Fashion Technology Academy, with staff members taking part in specialist Mental Health First Aider training to strengthen the support available to learners and colleagues. On Tuesday, 14th May, Louisa Christodoulou, Fashion Technology Academy stitching teacher, completed her Mental Health First Aider adult two-day course at Minds in Haringey, while on Monday, 18th May 2026, Puja Singh, tutor at the FTA Fashion Hub in Leicester, also successfully completed the Mental Health First Aider adult course.
The course focuses on equipping individuals with the ability to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and ways to respond in a supportive and appropriate manner. In addition to providing an in-depth understanding of mental health and well-being, the course offers practical skills that give participants the confidence to step in, reassure, and support a person in distress when required.

Louisa said: “The mental health training was very valuable and educational. I learned how to identify signs and symptoms of mental health and understand the strategies available. I feel more confident dealing with mental health in general.”

Puja added: “I am now an official MHFA. I have done the course where I have been taught to use ALGEE, which is a vital five-step action plan, so they know exactly how to support someone in emotional or psychological distress.”
