ATMF Supports Emerging Fashion Start-Ups at Leicester Fashion Hub
The Apparel and Textile Manufacturers Federation (ATMF) is playing a key role in supporting and advising new fashion start-ups through its ongoing work at the Fashion Hub in Leicester. Drawing on deep industry knowledge, technical expertise and strong regional supply-chain connections, ATMF provides emerging brands with practical guidance, access to resources and routes into ethical, UK-based manufacturing.
Through workshops, one-to-one mentoring and access to deadstock and surplus fabrics, ATMF is helping early-stage entrepreneurs turn creative ideas into viable, sustainable fashion businesses.
One of the latest designers to benefit from this support is Sharmaine (pictured with Jo Bean at the Fashion Hub), who connected with ATMF after attending a workshop held at the Leicester Fashion Hub, where she also purchased a selection of deadstock fabrics.

Sharmaine previously ran a successful online business selling formalwear dresses, with many of her styles selling out almost instantly. However, following a personal journey in her Christian faith, she felt that some of the designs no longer reflected her values and wanted to introduce greater modesty into her collections. Rather than discard her existing stock, she chose to upcycle and rework the garments, re-shooting and re-branding them for a new website and business direction.
While Sharmaine had limited stitching experience, she demonstrated strong determination and a clear creative vision. Through discussions with ATMF, pathways were identified to support her upskilling, including technical guidance, production advice and access to local manufacturing expertise. This tailored support is enabling her to build confidence, develop new skills and progress her brand in a more sustainable and values-led way.
ATMF’s work at the Fashion Hub continues to demonstrate how targeted industry support, combined with regional collaboration, can empower the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs while strengthening the UK’s apparel and textile ecosystem.
