Industry Support: Thinking of Launching a Fashion Brand?” Masterclass

The “Thinking of Launching a Fashion Brand?” masterclass, hosted by Fashion-Enter Ltd and supported by the ATMF, proved to be an insightful and highly practical session for aspiring fashion entrepreneurs. Held on 30th March at the Fashion Hub, Phoenix House in Leicester, the event brought together creatives and early-stage founders eager to better understand the realities of launching a fashion label.

Led by industry expert Caroline Trend, the hour-long session delivered a clear, honest walkthrough of the entire brand development journey, from the spark of an idea through to sourcing, sampling, and manufacturing. Rather than glossing over the complexities, the masterclass stood out for its grounded, real-world approach, helping attendees grasp both the opportunities and the challenges ahead.

One of the strongest aspects of the session was its focus on the early research phase. Caroline emphasised the importance of understanding your customer, defining a unique selling point, and positioning your brand effectively in a competitive market. For many new founders, this stage is often rushed or overlooked, and the masterclass successfully highlighted why getting these foundations right is critical.

Equally valuable was the breakdown of the design and development process. Attendees were introduced to key industry tools such as tech packs, often a confusing concept for beginners, and gained clarity on how these documents play a crucial role in communicating with manufacturers. The discussion around fabric sourcing and production logistics also demystified an area that can feel inaccessible to newcomers.

What made the session particularly impactful was its transparency around common misconceptions. Rather than presenting fashion entrepreneurship as glamorous or straightforward, Caroline addressed the typical pitfalls that catch new brands off guard, helping attendees leave with a more realistic and informed perspective.

Feedback from participants reflected this value, with one attendee saying: “Very useful information about trend spotting, trade shows, what’s needed when working with manufacturers and the processes. Great insights and food for thought. Thank you so much Caroline. Always a pleasure to see you.”

Overall, the masterclass served as an excellent entry point for anyone considering launching a fashion brand. It balanced inspiration with practical guidance, equipping attendees with the knowledge and confidence to take their next steps, or, importantly, to reassess their plans with a clearer understanding of what lies ahead.

With further industry-led sessions expected and upcoming events such as Leicester Made and Regions (Friday 24th April) on the horizon, initiatives like this continue to position Leicester as a supportive hub for emerging fashion talent.
