How the FTA Fashion Hub in Leicester Is Supporting Local Designers and Manufacturers
Leicester’s fashion and textiles heritage continues to thrive through the work of the FTA Fashion Hub, a space dedicated to nurturing local talent, strengthening manufacturing networks, and championing sustainable innovation. One recent success story perfectly illustrates how collaboration within the Hub is helping new designers take their first steps into the industry.

Supporting Local Talent: Priesha Patel’s Journey
Former FTA student Priesha Patel (pictured above in black) has trained extensively with us, completing courses in stitching, pattern cutting, and a Skills Bootcamp designed to prepare emerging designers for real-world industry demands. Equipped with technical skills and a strong creative vision, Priesha was ready to launch her own label – a soft jersey collection made from responsibly sourced materials.
With sustainability at the heart of her concept, Priesha was particularly interested in using deadstock fabric from local manufacturers. The Fashion Hub stepped in to help make that connection.
Connecting Designers With Industry Expertise
To support the next stage of her journey, the FTA Fashion Hub introduced Priesha to Tammy Chick, an experienced Leicester manufacturer, ATMF member, and designer who has successfully launched her own label. Tammy’s extensive knowledge of the local industry, combined with her commitment to nurturing new talent, made her the ideal mentor.
The two met at the Fashion Hub alongside members of the team, where they discussed the types of deadstock fabric Priesha could use in her first collection. Tammy generously offered several free sample lengths from her own stock giving Priesha the materials she needed to begin developing her range without the initial financial barrier many new designers face.
Strengthening Leicester’s Fashion Ecosystem
This collaboration is a powerful example of how the FTA Fashion Hub and ATMF works to strengthen Leicester’s manufacturing ecosystem. By bringing together experienced makers, emerging designers, and industry resources under one roof, the Hub enables:
- Access to local supply chains, reducing waste and supporting sustainable fashion practices
- Mentorship and knowledge sharing from established Leicester manufacturers
- Opportunities for new designers to develop collections in a supportive, professional environment
- A platform for collaboration that keeps skills and production within the region
A Growing Community of Creativity and Innovation
Priesha’s experience highlights the difference that community support can make at the earliest stages of a designer’s career. The Fashion Hub remains committed to helping more local creatives bring their ideas to life, while continuing to champion Leicester’s rich manufacturing heritage and forward-thinking approach to fashion.
