On 4th December, Fashion Hub Leicester held a bespoke Upcycling and Stitching masterclass aligned with Twin Employment and Training‘s mission: To empower individuals with practical, employable skills while fostering sustainability and creativity.
During the 3-hour session attendees were taught essential stitching techniques, upcycling principles, and the value of transforming pre-loved garments into functional or stylish items. Participants not only left with their handmade product but knowledge and skills that could enhance their employability, inspire further creative pursuits, and instil confidence in sustainable practices.

Divya from the Fashion Hub said: “It was pleasure to work with Twin Employment and Training on this Upcycling and Stitching masterclass. This session helped individuals who were on restart schemes and those that are economically inactive to get out and do something creative.
“At the end of the masterclass we saw happy faces and felt the sense of achievement, along with a general gain in confidence. The attendees loved the session and were able to make some scrunchies, hair bands, Christmas jumpers and niqab.
“The staff from Twin Group were also present on the day to support and also got into the creative swing. We look forward to many more inspiring and positive workshops like this.”
Participant feedback included: “I learnt how to stitch a garment together and use various machines. I absolutely loved using the machines and designing my garment. Such a useful session and I absolutely enjoyed using all the machines.”
“I learnt how to overlock, lockstitch, appliqué and be creative. Great facilities and tutors and you get to make and keep an item.”
